Welcome beta testers! Let’s get you up and running. Please remember that we’re a small indie team, and this is a very very early build of the game, with plenty of bugs and missing features. We’ll be providing updates constantly, so make sure to check for updates frequently!
We cannot stress this enough: THIS IS A BETA. The game is still in development and will get better.
We highly recommend joining the Discord channel to ask questions and add your feedback!

Playing on Itch (Level 2+ Backers)
Unfortunately Steam has soft-locked the number of users we’re able to release the beta to for now. We’re working with Steam to increase this limit but they’ve been slow to respond. So in the meantime, we’ll be distributing the beta build through Itch. Just follow the download link in the email you receive from us, create an Itch account or log-in to your existing account, and download and play the game! We’ll let you know as soon as we can open the Steam build to more users, and we apologize for this temporary disruption. If you’ve received an Itch key you will also receive a Steam beta key as soon as they're available, and your final game copy will be a Steam key if you've chosen PC / Mac as your platform
You’ll need to Sign Up in-game with the email you backed the game with on Kickstarter. If you need to update that email, you can finalize it through Kickstarter’s Pledge Manager here:

Playing on Steam (Level 4+ Backers)
Launch the Steam client software and log into or create your Steam account.
Click the Games menu option at the top of the Steam client.
Choose Activate a Product on Steam...
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process. Use the key code we’re sending to you.
That should get you into the game! Keep in mind it must be launched from Steam.
Also note, when you launch the app, you may see this message: “Steam login failed. Please ensure Steam is running and try again.”. Make sure Steam is open, and try hitting ‘Try Again’ a few times.
That should get you into the game! Now for bugs / other items:
MacOS
MacOS users may see a popup with “DungeonBox wants to use your confidential information stored in “com.FoxtailGames.DungeonBox” in your keychain. You can allow this popup or deny it, it just saves the game’s login info in your keychain if you want it to.
Mac users should also download an Enhanced voice to use with the game. There’s an option inside the General settings in-game, that will walk you through this.
One Mac user reported a crash almost immediately after launch, no error message or output. Adjusting the Steam launch options fixed it:
-screen-fullscreen 0 -screen-width 1280 -screen-height 720
Windows
Some users may see an error like this:
“Failed to connect to DungeonBox. Please check your internet connection…”
It’s likely your computer has outdated C++ redistributables. Please install the latest 2022 version from Microsoft:

KNOWN BUGS
We’re working on fixing all of these and will provide updates ASAP!
Stuck on “Loading”? Try going into Settings -> A.I. -> And selecting ‘Pro DM’. Some of the local models are still having issues
“Invalid / Unauthorized User” messages mean your email isn’t in our system. Please make sure you’re signing up and logging in with the email your backed the Kickstarter reward with, or filled out in the Pledge Manager
For Itch users, the Pro Credits label will always display either 0, or that you’re not logged in if you’re running the old version 0.3. Update to version 0.4 to fix this!
